Project Focus
| |
|
|
When RSM Bentley Jennison required a new network cabling Installation within there newly
acquired Leeds Office, it wanted to make sure that its communications cabling was installed
to a high standard and future proof.
Being a member of RSM International, the 7th largest global accounting network that
is represented in over 72 countries and having 1000 staff based across 15 offices UK
sites careful planning and implementation was required.
With the need to communicate effectively with its UK and global client base, Bentley Jennison
required a high quality, resilient and manageable structured cabling system capable of supporting
pplication up to 250 MHz to provide its staff with the infrastructure required to deliver fast,
high quality data & voice communications needs.
|
|
|
Under floor basket containment
Prior to the installation of the structured cabling, 600mm basket containment was installed
under the raised floor along with cable matting lining the basket runs to avoid damaging the
cabling due to the weight distribution incurred with large quantities of network cables.
Upon exiting the main cable runs the cabling was further contained within 25mm flexible conduits
to the floor boxes locations were the cabling was to be terminated and presented on RJ45 modules.
|
|
|
Category 6 cabling
Netlink Cabling & Security Solutions were chosen by RMS Bentley Jennison through an existing
relationship to undertake the installation of 600 Category 6 UTP network cables to support data
and voice communications, along with supporting the convergence of other IP systems onto the
network including alarm systems, CCTV building monitoring systems.
|
|
|
A 3M Volition Category 6 UTP structured cabling system was chosen for the installation
due to the high quality and performance capabilities of the cabling system, which provides
a significant amount of headroom when tested to ISO/IEC Class E standard.
The installation work was undertaken during a new fit out that involved new offices,
reception areas and open plan work areas being built.
Final testing of all Cat 6 network cables was undertaken using a Fluke level 111 network
cabling tester and certified to ISO/IEE Class E link testing in accordance with the
manufacturer 3M specification and a 25-year warranty issued on completion.
Two communication rooms were constructed with the main communication room housing the network
servers and the PABX telephone system and the second communication room having network switches,
backbone cabling and Category 6 structured cabling installed within a 42u communication cabinet.

Fibre optic backbone cabling
Multimode fibre optic cabling was installed to connect the new communication rooms.
Two 8 –Core, OM3 50/125um fibre optic cables were installed and routed between the communication
rooms in separate directions (diverse routing) to create resilience within the network.
SC type factory polished fibre connectors were spliced onto the fibre optic cabling using a core
alignment fusion splicer to terminate the cabling ensuring the lowest possible losses.
Final testing & certification of the fibre optic cabling was carried out using a Fluke certification
tester to certify the links performance to 1000Base-SX (gigabit ethernet) followed by using an OTDR to
provide trace analysis of the fibre optic cabling showing individual losses at each event.
Finally a video probe was used to capture endface images of each fibre core installed, these captured
images form part of our testing criteria and we believe, provides our clients with the assurance of a high quality installation.

Voice backbone cabling
With the PABX telephone system installed within the main communication room server cabinets,
a new 50 pair voice backbone cabling link was required to connect both communication rooms and enable voice circuits
to be distributed to the second communication room.
The cabling was terminated onto 50 port voice patch panels and housed within the new server cabinets in both communication rooms,
allowing telephone connections to be simply patched between the voice & structured cabling patch panels using standard RJ45 patch cords.
