Category 6 cabling
The network cabling infrastructure included the installation of over 3,500
Krone TrueNet Category 6 UTP network cables to provide the client with network,
telephone & video connectivity.
The cabling work involved installing a new Cat 6 structured cabling system as
part of the new fit out which included installing cabling within new offices,
reception areas, video conferencing rooms and open plan work areas.
|
|
|
Four new communication rooms were built to distribute the cabling over four
floors each communication room had approx 1000 Cat 6 network points, 320
voice links, 25 ISDN links & 24 Core fibre links.
The new Cat 6 cabling was terminated onto Krone TrueNet 24-way patch panels
within new 42U APF computer frames, and both single and dual faceplates at
the user outlet contained within floor boxes. Krone TrueNet RJ-K CL UTP Jacks
were used to connect the cabling which offer superior performance.
Following the installation and termination of the Category 6 cabling, testing
was successfully carried out prior to the handover to the client using a Fluke
level 111 Category 6 network cabling tester, providing evidence that every
cable installed meets the requirements of TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1 test standards.
A full and comprehensive set of test results, including drawings showing outlet
locations and cable routes were submitted to both the client and ADC Krone to
verify there strict installation and test standards have been met.

Fibre optic backbone cabling
Each communication room located on all floors was connected to the main
communication room using multimode fibre optic cabling. Interlinks were
also installed between each of the communication room to add resilience
to the network.
The client also required singlemode fibre optic cabling installing between
each communication room to transmit high quality video, used for video
conference calls around the world.
SC type factory polished fibre connectors were used and spliced onto the
fibre optic cabling using a core alignment fusion splicer to terminate the
cabling ensuring the lowest possible losses.
Testing & Certification of the fibre optic cabling was carried out using a
Fluke certification tester & OTDR.

Voice backbone cabling
The new Avaya PABX Telephone switch was installed within the basement
communication room and required a new wall mounted distribution frame to
terminate the exchange lines and also distribution cabling around the site.
320 pair voice backbone cabling links were installed to each communication
room and terminated within the APF communication frames on all four floors
along with additional 50 pair voice links terminated for use as dedicated ISDN lines.
Voice backbone Interlinks were also installed between each of the communication
room to add resilience to the network.
The voice cabling was terminated onto Krone TrueNet 50 port voice patch panels which
housed within the each of the APF communication frames in all four communication
rooms, allowing telephone connections to be simply patched between the voices &
structured cabling patch panels using standard RJ45 patch cords.
