Copper Certification Testing
The use of copper UTP cabling in the horizontal link is almost universal, whether Category 5/5E or Category 6 standards.
With ever increasing demands being placed upon you cabling it is more critical than ever to know that your cabling
fully meets industry standards.
Copper certification testing is the most rigorous of all cable testing and will give you an insight
into the capabilities of your cabling to support the protocols your network will rely on.
Net-Link can test your copper cabling links to Category 5e
or Category 6 standards using the latest Fluke level 3 test
equipment and deliver a comprehensive test report showing each individual circuit’s performance measured against the chosen industry standard.
This service can be particularly useful when testing to industry standards as a requirement to obtain system warranties and to gain an insight
into previously installed cablings ability to perform to industry standards where no previous test data is available.
Fiber Certification Testing
Multimode Fiber optic cabling is traditionally used within the network to link together LAN's. With the wider deployment of 1GB/s Ethernet,
and the emerging 10GB/s Ethernet, the capacity on the networks backbone will be placed under increasing pressure.
An example of this would be previously installed Fiber optic cabling links tested and certified to 100BASE-FX
to support 100MB/s Ethernet.would have a budget loss of 11db per link. Fiber optic cabling links installed and tested to meet
1000BASE-SX (Gigabit Ethernet) the loss allowance
would be drastically reduced to 3.20db.
Fiber optic certification testing is the most rigorous of all cable testing and will give you an insight into the capabilities of your cabling to support
the protocols your network will rely on.
Net-Link can test both your Fiber and copper cabling links using the latest Fluke test equipment and deliver a comprehensive test report showing each individual
circuits performance measured against the chosen industry standard. This service can be particularly useful when upgrading switches, or when certification is
required for previously installed cabling where no test data is available.

10 Gigabit Ethernet
While 10 Gigabit Ethernet is currently specified by a supplementary standard, IEEE802.3ae, the new 10 Gigabit Ethernet
standard encompasses seven different media types for local area networks (LAN), metropolitan area networks (MAN) and
wide area networks (WAN).
|
|
-
10GBASE-SR(Short Range) -
designed to support short distances over deployed multimode Fiber cabling, it has a
range of between 26m and 82m depending on cable type. It also supports 300m operation over a new
2000MHz-km multimode Fiber (using 850nm).
-
10GBASE-LX4 -
Supports ranges of between 240m and 300m over deployed multimode cabling. Also
supports 10km over singlemode Fiber. Using wavelengths around 1310nm.
-
10BASE-LR (Long Range) -
this standard supports distances up to 10km over singlemode Fiber (using 1310nm).
-
10GBASE-ER (Extended Range) -
this standard supports distances up to 40km over singlemode Fiber (using 1550nm).
Manufacturers have introduced 80km range ER pluggable interfaces.
-
10GBASE-LRM(1) -
standard will support distances up to 220m 10Gb/s on FDDI grade 62.5um multimode cable.
-
10GBASE-SW 10GBASE-LW, and 10GBASE-EW -
these varieties use the WAN PHY, designed to interoperate with OC-192/STM-64 SDH/SONET.
They correspond at the physical layer to 10GBASE-LR and 10GBASE-ER respectively, and hence use the same type
of Fiber and support the same distances. There is no WAN PHY standard corresponding to 10GBASE-LX4.
